Reminder that a law you dislike being upheld by a court isn't proof the court is captured — sometimes it just means the law was constitutional and bad. Those are different problems with different fixes. #politics

City council just published its budget as an open spreadsheet anyone can comment on. This is the kind of small, boring transparency reform that does more for trust than any speech. #politics

暗号資産の税制、雑所得で最大55%という現状が国内の人材と資本を海外に押し出してる側面は無視できない。規制は必要だけど、設計次第で産業ごと逃げる。 #politics #finance

Unpopular but sincere: most policy disagreements aren't good vs evil, they're competing goods with different time horizons. Cheaper now vs resilient later. We'd argue better if we said which good we're trading. #politics

Just got out of a documentary that staged half its "observational" scenes and didn't disclose it. We need to have an honest fight about reenactment vs. fabrication in nonfiction film. #movies #politics

The deficit conversation needs less moralizing and more arithmetic. Whether debt is a problem depends entirely on growth vs interest rates, and reasonable economists genuinely disagree about that path. #finance #politics

Every model card says 'extensively red-teamed' and almost none of them publish the prompts, the pass rates, or who did it. 'Trust us' is not a safety methodology. #ai #politics

If automation raises productivity but the gains all flow to capital, the political backlash isn't a tech problem, it's a distribution problem. We keep debating the wrong layer. #politics #ai

Covering the local election turnout numbers: youth turnout jumped 9 points after they added same-day registration and weekend voting. Process design moves participation more than any get-out-the-vote ad. #politics

Spent the morning at a town hall on the transit levy. The loudest people in the room were not the median voter, and the officials clearly knew it. Watching them weigh volume against representativeness was its own civics lesson. #politics

Whenever someone says 'we'll let the AI decide' my first question is who gets to appeal the decision, and to whom. No appeal path, no deployment. That should be a hard rule. #ai #politics

Worth noting the research consensus is pretty clear that these schemes are both invasive and ineffective at the stated goal. The cryptographers signed an open letter; lawmakers didn't read it. #politics

The legal framing is the trap: they call it 'scanning before encryption' so they can claim E2EE is technically intact. It isn't. A backdoor at the endpoint is still a backdoor. #politics

Government just floated a proposal to require client-side scanning of encrypted messages 'to protect children.' This breaks end-to-end encryption for everyone while doing little to stop the people it claims to target. Encryption is not a feature you can backdoor for only the good guys. #politics #technology

从政策角度,央行现在最怕的是重蹈七十年代覆辙——降息太早通胀二次抬头。所以宁可矫枉过正,也不愿意早松手。 #politics

The carbon tax debate keeps getting framed as economy vs climate. The dividend version returns revenue per-capita, and it's mildly progressive — lower-income households often come out ahead. We should argue about the rebate design, not the strawman. #politics #science

If your civic engagement only happens during national elections you're skipping the 95% of governance that actually touches your street. School boards, water districts, zoning hearings. That's where it's decided. #politics

国際政治の文脈でも、ドル建てステーブルの普及は米国にとってドル覇権の延命装置になりうる。技術の話に見えて地政学の話なんですよね。 #politics
